In a bold move signaling a massive infrastructure overhaul ahead of Ogun State’s 50th anniversary, Governor Dapo Abiodun has commissioned the strategic Laderin–Prof. Wole Soyinka Train Station Road in Abeokuta, while simultaneously announcing plans to inaugurate 20 additional roads across the state.
Speaking at the ceremony on Tuesday, Governor Abiodun unveiled what he termed the biggest secret of his administration’s reconstruction efforts: the massive 100-kilometer Sagamu Interchange–Papalanto–Opele Road.
Described as a critical East-West connector, this concrete-reinforced highway is set to redefine commercial movement in the region.
Once completed, it will offer a strategic bypass for heavy-duty vehicles, allowing traffic from Ota, Ifo, and Ewekoro to access the expressway directly without bottlenecking through Abeokuta.
The Governor emphasized that the newly commissioned access road to the Prof. Wole Soyinka Train Station is a vital piece of his multimodal transportation agenda.
Highlighting the station as a major gateway linking Ogun to Lagos, Oyo, and Northern Nigeria, he noted that the facility serves between 100,000 and 150,000 commuters and investors daily.
“We have constructed over 1,600 kilometers of roads, and we are not slowing down,” Abiodun declared, citing the significant progress on the Atan–Lusada–Agbara Road as further proof of his administration’s commitment.
The transformation was hailed by community leaders and transport unions alike. Chief Bode Mustapha, the Osi of Egbaland, and Alhaji Taofeek Sokoya of the Articulate Motorcycle Owners Association (AMORAN) commended the Governor for turning a previously no-go area into a commercial hub, breathing new life into the Laderin and MKO Abiola Trade Fair communities.
