Oborevwori’s agricultural reforms making Farmers smile – Ossai

Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor of Delta State, Ossai Ovie Success has described the agricultural reforms of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as making farmers smile.

In a statement on Monday, Ossai said the initiatives are helping improve food production and strengthen the state’s drive toward food security under the Oborevwori administration’s MORE Agenda.

According to him, food security a key campaign promise of the administration is gradually becoming a reality as farmers receive support across various areas of agricultural production.

He disclosed that the state government provided ₦1 billion in counterpart funding for the African Union Development Agency–New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD).

The intervention, he noted, has supported thousands of farmers involved in food crop production, livestock, and aquaculture through the provision of agricultural inputs, training, and technical assistance.

Ossai also said the governor facilitated the distribution of fertilizers to farmers across the state’s 25 local government areas to boost crop yields during the current planting season.

He added that agricultural inputs have been provided to more than 10,000 smallholder farmers as part of efforts to increase productivity and ensure a steady food supply.

Beyond supporting existing farmers, the administration focuses on youth empowerment by providing training and starter packs to young people interested in fishery, poultry, cassava, and vegetable farming.

Ossai explained that the program aims to both improve food production and create sustainable employment opportunities for the youth.

He further stated that the state government has facilitated partnerships with private investors, leading to the revival of rice mills and cassava processing clusters.

This development will help reduce post-harvest losses and enable farmers to earn more by improving access to processing facilities.

The governor’s media aide also noted that extension workers have been deployed across the three senatorial districts to train farmers in climate-smart agriculture and modern farming methods.

“Farmers in Delta are no longer farming with their bare hands. They now have inputs, funding, and technical support. This is why we are seeing improved harvests and more food in our markets,” Ossai said
