Peter Obi, a leading opposition figure, held a breakfast meeting with Western diplomats in Abuja, a day after the convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he described as a defining moment for Nigeria’s democracy.
In a post shared on X, Obi said the meeting brought together the British High Commissioner and representatives from the European Union, Germany, Canada, and France, adding that discussions focused on strengthening relationships.
Among those present was Richard Montgomery, alongside other diplomatic representatives, reflecting continued international engagement with Nigeria’s political actors ahead of the 2027 elections.
The meeting comes amid heightened political activity following Obi’s recent alignment with the ADC in March 2026, a move that has reshaped opposition dynamics after his 2023 presidential bid.
Supporters online praised the engagement, describing it as a sign of statesmanship and global relevance.
“A Peter Obi presidency will reset Nigeria’s global image,” one user wrote, pointing to his perceived discipline and international appeal.
Others highlighted the importance of such diplomatic interactions in positioning Nigeria within the global community, while some urged the former Anambra State governor to focus more directly on addressing domestic economic and security concerns.
The outreach underscores ongoing efforts by opposition figures to build international relationships and project readiness ahead of the next electoral cycle, as debates over governance and reform continue to shape Nigeria’s political landscape.
