…orders immediate construction of new Palace

In a major infrastructure boost for the Badagry division, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the imminent commencement of the second phase of the Market General Hospital Road construction leading to Ajido.

The Governor made the commitment on Wednesday at the Akran’s Palace in Badagry, during the ninth-day spiritual prayers held in honour of the late Paramount Ruler of Badagry Kingdom, Oba Babatunde Akran, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I.

Addressing a gathering of top government officials, traditional leaders, and residents, Governor Sanwo-Olu assured the community that his administration remains focused on completing critical infrastructure projects in the historic town.

He stated that the extension of the road project to Ajido is part of a broader plan to enhance connectivity and boost the local economy.

In addition to the road project, the Governor acceded to the community’s request for a modern royal edifice, ordering the immediate construction of a new Badagry Central Palace.

He disclosed that contractors have already been mobilized to the site to ensure the project is delivered speedily as a mark of honour to the late monarch and the institution he represented.

“You can see all of the major roads, hospitals, and schools that we have done here. And one of the new things that they requested for today is the construction of a new befitting palace, which we are committed to because we have made provision for it. We have identified a space for that, and we will also help them to do that,” Sanwo-Olu said.

While paying tribute to the late Oba Akran, who spent 49 years on the throne, the Governor described him as a pillar of tradition who stood for togetherness, unity, and peace.

He urged the people of Badagry to immortalize the late monarch by upholding these values and preserving the rich cultural heritage that defines the ancient kingdom.

“Badagry will continue to remain peaceful and a place of pride for us, a place of joy, and a place where both local and international tourist attractions will always want to come,” he added.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of Badagry Local Government Area, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, extolled the virtues of the late traditional ruler, noting that under Oba Akran’s leadership, Badagry remained a sanctuary where dialogue prevailed over conflict.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, members of the State Executive Council, and traditional rulers, including the Aholu of Ajido Kingdom, HRM Saheed Adamson, who praised the late monarch’s role in reorganizing grassroots leadership in the division.
