NYSC engages corps employers to foster cordial relationships in Kogi

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kogi, has organised a workshop for corps employers aimed at fostering cordial relationship between corps members and their employers.

Speaking at the workshop on Tuesday in Lokoja, Mr Femi Osungbohun, State Coordinator of NYSC, said that the essence was to bring together employers of labour and corps members to brainstorm on how to collaborate for effective service delivery.

The workshop has its theme: “Deepening The NYSC/Corps Employers Working Relationship for Optimal Performance.”

Osungbohun, emphasised the importance of the workshop in bridging the communication gap and ensuring smooth operations of serving corps members in Kogi State.

He implored NYSC stakeholders and partners to remain committed to the success of the scheme.

He urged corps’ employers to create a conducive working environment for corps members, including providing comfortable accommodation, enhanced monthly allowances and transportation for corps members.

Osungbohun solicited for a collective efforts to improve the welfare packages for corps members serving in public and private sector.

He noted that corps employers have a critical role to play in the success of the NYSC scheme, saying their contributions would be appreciated in strengthening the bond of unity and to enhance service delivery.

In his remarks, Gov. Ahmed Ododo, assurances of the state government’s  commitment towards making the service year memorable for corps members.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Monday Anyebe, the governor maintained that youth development was central to his administration’s policy thrust, adding that improving the welfare of corps members was a priority.

The guest speaker, Pastor Oladele Jacob, a retired NYSC Deputy Director, recommended expanding the scope of the annual employers workshop for more impact.

He also suggested that the NYSC management should resuscitate the annual award to the best employer of the year and institute better interactions with corps employers.

Jacob urged corps employers to embrace new policy changes and be equipped to offer mentorship to corps members.
