NUJ FCT lauds Badejo-Okusanya’s election as NBA President
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has congratulated Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, on her election as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
The union described Badejo-Okusanya’s emergence as a significant milestone for women in leadership.
Chairman, NUJ FCT Council, Ms Grace Ike, the Council stated these in a statement on Monday in Abuja
Ike also described her election as a defining moment in the history of Nigeria’s legal profession.
She noted that Badejo-Okusanya’s election as the first democratically elected woman to lead the NBA sent a strong message that competence, resilience, integrity, excellence and visionary leadership transcend gender.
According to Ike, the landmark achievement is not only a personal triumph for the new NBA President but also a victory for Nigerian women and young professionals who continue to break long-standing barriers across different sectors through dedication, hard work and merit.
“This historic development resonates strongly within the NUJ FCT, where Comrade Grace Ike recently emerged as the first female Chairman in the Council’s 43-year history.”
She described both milestones as clear evidence of the growing acceptance of inclusive, merit-based leadership within Nigeria’s professional institutions.
“The emergence of two women to lead two of Nigeria’s foremost professional bodies within such a short period is a powerful statement that the nation’s institutions are increasingly embracing competence and excellence above all else.
“We believe these achievements will inspire a new generation of women to aspire to leadership and contribute meaningfully to national development,” Ike said
The NUJ FCT chairman acknowledged the NBA’s longstanding role in defending constitutional democracy, promoting the rule of law, protecting fundamental human rights and advancing justice in Nigeria.
Ike expressed confidence that under the leadership of Badejo-Okusanya, the association would consolidate on its rich legacy, strengthen public confidence in the legal profession and champion reforms that would further enhance the administration of justice.
She reaffirmed the council’s commitment to strengthening collaboration between the media and the legal profession in advancing democratic governance, accountability, press freedom, human rights and the rule of law in Nigeria.
The NUJ FCT boss wished Badejo-Okusanya a successful, purposeful and impactful tenure.
He expressed confidence that her administration would leave an enduring legacy of transformational leadership, professional excellence and greater opportunities for future generations of legal practitioners and women leaders.
