NSE inaugurates Maiduguri 2026 International Engineering Conference LOC

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), has officially inaugurated the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2026 International Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting, scheduled to hold in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The inauguration was performed on behalf of the President of the NSE, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, F.ASCE, FAEng, MFR, by Engr. Mohammed Bashir Shettima, FNSE, Chairman of the NSE Maiduguri Branch. The event was witnessed by the Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee (CPC), Engr. Mohammed Kabir Wanori, FNSE.

In his remarks, Engr. Shettima conveyed the President’s message to members of the LOC, urging them to work in close synergy with the CPC and other stakeholders to ensure the successful hosting of the event.

Engr. Mohammed Umaru Watsada, FNSE was subsequently inaugurated as Chairman of the LOC. In his acceptance speech, he expressed appreciation to the President of NSE and the CPC for the confidence reposed in him and his team. He assured that the Committee would work diligently to justify the trust placed in them and deliver a memorable and successful conference.

Earlier, the CPC Chairman described the inauguration as a significant milestone in the implementation of the Maiduguri 2026 conference roadmap. He noted that the LOC would serve as the operational engine of the conference at the host-city level, working closely with the CPC and relevant stakeholders to ensure the seamless execution of all activities leading to the event.

Engr. Wanori expressed confidence in the Committee’s ability to deliver on its mandate and emphasised that the inauguration demonstrates the Society’s commitment to early planning, teamwork, and excellence in hosting what is expected to be one of the most memorable international conferences in the history of the NSE.

The decision to host the 2026 NSE International Conference in Maiduguri reflects the Society’s confidence in the growing peace, stability, and developmental strides recorded in Borno State. It also presents an opportunity to showcase the resilience of the people of the State and the transformative role of engineering in reconstruction, recovery, infrastructure development, and sustainable growth. The Government and people of Borno State continue to work closely with security stakeholders to sustain a peaceful environment conducive to hosting major national and international events.

The conference, themed “Engineering Innovation for Enhanced Security and Sustainable National Development,” will bring together engineers, policymakers, academics, industry leaders, development partners, and other stakeholders to explore innovative engineering solutions to contemporary national challenges and opportunities.
