The scourge of kidnapping in Nigeria has become a grim reality, with the government seemingly turning a deaf ear to the daily reports of abductions while kidnappers continue to thrive within society.
One such incident is the abduction of Mr Ibrahim Osaretin of 23, Second East Circular Road, Benin City, in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. He vanished without a trace at approximately 11 a.m. on 14 February 2025 at Amenaghawo Street, Obagie Sapele Road, Benin City.
His disappearance has left his immediate family in a state of deep distress, haunted by trauma and the fear of further attacks. As a result, they are now desperately seeking a secure refuge, either within or beyond the borders of Nigeria.
To compound their suffering, Mr Osaretin’s wife and children have been receiving threatening phone calls from unknown individuals, warning of further harm. Despite filing multiple complaints with the authorities, no tangible action has been taken to protect them or to ensure justice.
As the menace of kidnapping continues to spiral out of control, only time will tell what fate awaits victims and their families in a country where safety is no longer guaranteed.
