The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) has said the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s progress in financial disclosure and anti-corruption measures offers lessons for other national oil companies.
EITI Executive Director, Mark Robinson, made the assessment after receiving NNPC Ltd’s 2025 Audited Financial Statement from the company’s Head of Global Compliance, Murjanatu Gamawa, at the 2026 EITI Global Conference in Brussels, Belgium.
Robinson commended NNPC Ltd for publishing its anti-corruption policy, which includes requirements for disclosing politically exposed persons and beneficial ownership.
He said the company’s progress could help inform efforts to bring more national oil companies into the EITI, a global initiative promoting transparency and accountability in the oil, gas and mining sectors.
Gamawa said NNPC Ltd’s engagement with the EITI informed its decision to publish its audited financial statement.
She said the company would continue working with the initiative to strengthen corporate governance and build credibility with investors, stakeholders and the public.
Both parties also agreed to maintain regular engagements and explore opportunities for peer learning between NNPC Ltd and other national oil companies.
The meeting took place on October 9, 2026, on the sidelines of the global conference.
