NNPC Ltd posts N481bn profit, as oil production hits 1.68mbpd in April

Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has recorded a profit after tax of NGN 481 billion from a total revenue of NGN 4,971 billion, according to its monthly summary report for April 2026.
This major financial milestone is detailed in the NNPC Ltd monthly report which highlights steady operational gains and statutory payments from January to April 2026 reaching NGN 3,714 billion.
The energy company’s upstream sector showed robust numbers, with crude oil and condensate production averaging 1.68 million barrels per day (mmbapd) in April 2026, bouncing back from a slight dip to 1.56 mmbapd in March.
Natural gas production also maintained strong momentum, reaching 7,730 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d).
NNPC Limited attributed the month-on-month production performance largely to improved facilities uptime.
However, the company noted that April’s output faced minor headwinds due to a delayed start-up of the Trans Ramos Pipeline (TRP) following turn-around maintenance leaks, alongside other facility integrity issues.
To sustain this performance, the company is executing strategic efforts to accelerate well intervention programs and optimize facility uptimes in collaboration with its operating partners, keeping upstream pipeline availability at 79% for the month.
Significant progress was recorded across Nigeria’s major gas infrastructure initiatives aimed at bolstering national energy security.
Work on the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline mainline reached 94% availability, with stakeholders actively working to deliver early gas to Abuja by the end of 2026. Additionally, the critical Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) gas pipeline project achieved 96% availability following the successful completion of the complex OB3 River Niger crossing, a major breakthrough that brings the country closer to realizing its strategic gas distribution ambitions.
In the downstream sector, NNPC Retail stations maintained a 54% product availability rate across its nationwide network, while gas sales for the month stabilized at 5,044 mmscf/d.
Beyond its core energy operations, the company’s corporate social responsibility arm, the NNPC Foundation, rolled out extensive public impact initiatives across Nigeria.
On April 29, 2026, the foundation commissioned and handed over three newly rehabilitated, fully equipped medical gas wards with a 102-bed capacity to the management of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, significantly upgrading care delivery for the Southwest region. These healthcare strides earned the foundation the “CSR Champion Award (Health) 2025” at the Silver Jubilee edition of the Independent Newspapers Awards in Lagos on April 18, 2026.
In response to severe seasonal flooding, the NNPC Foundation also delivered emergency humanitarian relief materials, including food items and bedding, to affected communities in Mokwa, Niger State.
On April 26, 2026, the foundation leveraged digital streaming to deliver a nationwide Basic Financial Literacy Training to 72,657 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members across all 37 orientation camps, bringing the cumulative number of corps members trained under the initiative to over 1.3 million.
