The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) Foundation has donated a state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) as part of its efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Nigeria.
The MRI system was commissioned and officially handed over at the hospital’s permanent site in Nnewi, Anambra State.
The facility is expected to significantly improve access to advanced diagnostic imaging services across the South-East region and neighboring Delta State.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Mele Kolo Kyari, who was represented by the Managing Director of the NNPC Foundation, Emmanuella Arukwe described the intervention as a strategic investment in healthcare accessibility and patient outcomes.

According to Arukwe, the project aligns with the company’s corporate social responsibility and its commitment to building sustainable systems and impactful national institutions.
The donation includes a fully installed 1.5 Tesla MRI machine alongside essential supporting infrastructure, such as RF shielding systems, chillers, backup UPS systems, specialized imaging accessories, ventilation systems, CCTV, oxygen monitoring systems, and intercom communication facilities.
Dignitaries at the event, including government officials, traditional rulers, and members of the hospital’s management team, commended the intervention, describing it as both timely and impactful.
They noted that the new facility will greatly reduce the burden of long-distance travel and the high diagnostic costs previously faced by patients seeking advanced imaging services in the region.
