Nnamdi Kanu sacks longtime lawyer

The detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has terminated the engagement of his longtime legal counsel, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, revoking all legal authorities previously granted to him.
In a statement, Kanu declared that Ejiofor no longer possesses express, implied, or ostensible authority to represent him, his family, or the IPOB organization in any legal or official capacity.

As part of the dismissal, Kanu announced the immediate withdrawal of all power-of-attorney and directed Ejiofor to cease issuing press releases, granting media interviews, or making social media posts on behalf of Kanu or IPOB.

He also directed the lawyer to formally recuse himself and withdraw from all active court cases where he remains listed as counsel.

Kanu also cautioned Ejiofor against disclosing confidential, privileged, or proprietary information acquired during their attorney-client relationship, warning that any breach could trigger disciplinary action before the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) alongside civil litigation for damages.

Referring to IPOB’s internal code of conduct, Kanu reiterated that the authority to appoint, retain, or dismiss primary legal representatives rests solely with him, while advising Ejiofor to preserve all relevant case files to ensure a smooth transition.
