The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has resigned from his position to pursue his ambition in the 2026 Osun State governorship primaries.
In a statement signed by Adebayo Adedeji, Coordinator of the AMBO Media Fronts, Oyebamiji conveyed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for appointing him as the substantive MD/CEO of NIWA in October 2023, and to former Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, for his recommendation and support.
The statement reads partly: “The Asiwaju of Ikire Kingdom and immediate past Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), conveys his profound gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his kindness and the opportunity to serve the nation as the chief executive of the country’s waterways agency for two years.
“AMBO noted that, upon the strong recommendation of his leader and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, President Tinubu approved his appointment as the substantive MD/CEO of NIWA in October 2023. And throughout his two-year stewardship, he received the unwavering support of both President Tinubu and former Governor Oyetola.
“During his short spell as head of NIWA, Oyebamiji demonstrated exceptional leadership, deploying his extensive private and public-sector experience, spanning nearly 40 years, to reposition the waterways authority for optimal performance. Within two years, his leadership worked assiduously to reduce deaths and accidents on Nigeria’s inland waterways by more than 70 per cent. His leadership also elevated safety awareness campaigns to unprecedented heights, while staff welfare received remarkable and widely commended attention.”
AMBO, who is now fully focused on the political arena, reiterated his commitment to offering quality leadership and outstanding service to the people of Osun State. He stated that his vision aims to place the state on a path of sustainable economic prosperity that will benefit both present and future generations.
He also expressed confidence in divine guidance, the backing of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the support of Osun residents to secure the party’s nomination and ultimately serve the people with integrity, competence, and dedication.
