The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has called on journalists to prioritize integrity and accuracy in their reporting.
The Managing Director/CEO of NISO, Engr. Abdu Mohammed made this known during an interaction with Journalists.
Reaffirming the organization’s commitment to transparency as a vital tool for industry collaboration, the MD emphasized that as Nigeria navigates complex market reforms, maintaining a foundation of verified facts is essential for strengthening the relationship between the institution and the public.
He further noted that NISO is the authoritative source for data within its jurisdiction while calling for caution against the dissemination of misleading information that could undermine the organization’s mandate.
He clarified that NISO serves as an information and regulatory authority regarding market reform updates rather than a physical operator in electricity generation or distribution.
To prevent the economic damage associated with misinformation, he urged journalists to utilize official NISO channels to verify technical details before publication.
The agency also pledged to remain a transparent partner, provided that media stakeholders uphold their responsibility to provide the public with precise and constructive information.
The dialogue concluded by touching on broader themes, including energy transition, public accountability, and the necessity of inclusive narratives that promote national unity.
