Nigeria’s tech giants benefitting from gains of Tinubu’s reforms — Shettima

Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima has said the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration are creating opportunities for Nigerian tech giants and other indigenous companies to grow into internationally recognised brands.

Shettima made this known when he received a delegation from Flutterwave, led by its Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, Mr Olugbenga Agboola, on a courtesy visit.

Flutterwave is a Nigerian fintech company providing payment infrastructure for global merchants and payment service providers.

Speaking during the meeting, Shettima assured the company of the Federal Government’s continued support, both within Nigeria and in its international operations.

The VP asserted that businesses such as Flutterwave, Moniepoint and Andela, among others, are benefiting from the gains of the administration’s reforms as they continue to expand their operations and strengthen their presence across Africa and beyond.

“We have to support and promote our own. We have to make our companies stronger,” the Vice President said.

He commended Flutterwave for building what he described as one of Africa’s most compelling technology success stories from Nigeria, noting that the company had demonstrated how local innovation could provide solutions to challenges affecting the continent.

Shettima attributed the company’s growth to committed leadership and expertise, particularly its ability to address challenges in digital payments through home-grown solutions.

According to him, Flutterwave’s journey reflects the ability to solve an African problem using an indigenous solution that addresses challenges related to digital payment for products and services, among others.

The Vice President reiterated that the administration remains committed to implementing policies that would create an enabling environment for Nigerian businesses to thrive and compete globally.

Earlier, Agboola said Flutterwave was focused on achieving significant growth in the coming years as it seeks to maintain its position as a major player in payments and banking across Africa and the global market.

He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima and the Federal Government for the confidence shown in the company.

According to him, the support represents a strategic signal of how Nigeria is supporting Nigeria and marks an important milestone for Flutterwave.

“Your Excellency, it’s my honour to be here today. Like I said, our goal is to partner with you and your team to reason how we can do more to advance the administration’s amazing economic agenda that we have seen working right now in the country,” Agboola said.

He added that the company was ready to contribute to the country’s economic development and become part of what he described as Nigeria’s positive growth story.

“We want to be a part of that positive story. We are very much a Nigerian company. I’m very much Nigerian. Nigeria is our home,” he said.

Agboola further stressed the company’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s progress through innovation, technology and the expansion of financial services.

Also present at the meeting were the Chief Executive Officer of Stanel Group, Mr Stanley Uzochukwu, alongside other top management staff of the company.

The engagement further highlighted the Federal Government’s push to encourage Nigerian companies to expand beyond the country’s borders and strengthen their position in the global economy.
