A Nigerian woman, identified as Mrs. Victoria Owoeye, has been declared wanted in her community over allegations of a same-sex relationship.

The development has sparked outrage and condemnation with growing tension that threats from both law enforcement and local residents.

It was gathered that Mrs. Victoria Owoeye relocated to Canada with her husband, Mr. Ademola with their two children in 2023 for studies, while she pursued her education abroad her longtime associate Ms. Kehinde, managed the family’s company in Nigeria.

Trouble began in June 2024 when Ms. Kehinde was arrested after a dispute with her female partner drew police attention. During questioning, suspicions about her past relationship with Mrs. Victoria Owoeye surfaced, fueling community anger and hostility.

It was reported that some youths vandalized the family’s house in Lagos, South West of Nigeria, accusing Mrs. Victoria Owoeye of “destroying societal values.” The family’s office, were also vandalized.

Mr. Ademola, who returned to Nigeria in October 2024 has been threatened with arrest for allegedly “aiding and abetting” his wife.

Ademola pressured by both community members and authorities to produce Victoria to face prosecution under Nigeria’s Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act 2013, which criminalises same-sex relationships and prescribes up to 14 years imprisonment.
