Nigerian Breweries Plc, Nigeria’s foremost brewing company, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Maltina Skills Acquisition Centre in Kakuri, Kaduna.

News Men reports that the gesture was part of its ongoing efforts to empower residents of its host communities.

Speaking at the event, the firm’s Managing Director, Mr Hans Essaadi, described the inauguration as a major milestone in the company’s pursuit of sustainable development and community empowerment.

He said, “This centre is a testament to our commitment to building a future full of opportunities—especially for women and youths in Kakuri.

“In a fast changing world, skill development is essential to economic transformation.

“Through this project, we are tackling unemployment with practical, marketable solutions.”

The managing director disclosed that the centre would offer training in a range of vocations, including tailoring, shoemaking, catering, hairdressing, ICT, and other trades vital for financial independence.

Essaadi urged the beneficiaries to seize the opportunity to embark on a journey of personal and economic transformation.

The Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, hailed the project as a landmark initiative that would unlock new opportunities and drive economic independence for young people across the state.

She said, “This centre is more than just a structure it represents dreams, aspirations, and a pathway to economic freedom.

“The skills acquired here will not only empower beneficiaries but also contribute to the local economy and inspire more youths to pursue self-development.”

Balarabe lauded the company for its strong commitment to corporate social responsibility.

She said that the project aligned perfectly with the vision of Gov. Uba Sani’s administration of promoting youths empowerment through modern skills acquisition.

“The Kaduna State Government recognises the critical role of vocational and ICT skills in today’s world.

“This centre will help turn job seekers into job creators, significantly reducing unemployment and fostering self-reliance,” the deputy governor added.

Balarabe reaffirmed the government’s readiness to provide a conducive environment for private sector growth and meaningful community impact.

The Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmed  Bamali, represented by the District Head of Makera, Alhaji Shehu Tijani, commended Nigerian breweries for its long-standing contributions to community development.

He stated that for over 60 years, the company had supported the Kakuri community through youths and women empowerment programmes.

Others interventions, the emir said, were internship opportunities, and sponsorship of Quranic recitation competitions.

The emir urged the company to continue supporting the centre through regular maintenance to ensure its sustainability.

News Men also reports that the company us a member of the HEINEKEN Group just as it is Nigeria’s pioneer and largest brewing company.

Established in 1946, it began operations in 1949 with the launch of STAR lager.

The company now boasts 19 premium brands including Heineken, Maltina, Amstel Malta, Gulder, and Fayrouz, produced across nine breweries and two malting plants nationwide.
