Nigeria, WFP to deepen climate-smart agriculture partnership for food security

The Nigerian Government is set to strengthen its collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP) to implement climate-smart agricultural solutions in vulnerable communities. Vice-President Kashim Shettima disclosed this during a bilateral meeting with WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain at the UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake in Addis Ababa.

He emphasised that the initiative would promote self-sufficiency among farmers and restore dignity to women and youths affected by climate challenges in the Sahel region. Shettima highlighted the government's efforts, including the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development, to tackle food insecurity.

The WFP Executive Director reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting Nigeria, especially through impactful programmes like school feeding.
