Nigeria-US joint airstrikes kill 175 ISIS fighters

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has revealed that a series of coordinated joint airstrikes conducted by the Nigerian military and United States forces have successfully neutralized 175 Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) fighters in the Lake Chad region.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, made this known during a press briefing on Tuesday.

He disclosed that the precision air operations targeted known terrorist strongholds, logistics bases, and command centers hidden within the dense vegetation and islands of the Lake Chad basin.

Buba explained that the bilateral operation was executed following intense intelligence gathering and surveillance tracking by both nations’ military architectures.

The airstrikes effectively dismantled the operational capabilities of the insurgent groups, destroying large stockpiles of weaponry, ammunition, and specialized combat vehicles used to launch attacks on civilian populations and military formations.

The DHQ described the outcome of the joint operation as a significant milestone in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign in the Northeast.

The military noted that the partnership underscores the international community’s commitment to eradicating global terrorism and securing the borders of the sub-region.

While commending the troops and international partners involved in the mission, the Defence Headquarters assured Nigerians that the armed forces would sustain the momentum of their offensive operations to eliminate the remnants of the terrorist networks and restore permanent peace to the affected communities.
