Nigeria has emerged as the top African exporter of crude oil to the United States between January and August 2025, according to a statement from the U.S. Mission in Nigeria.

The official announcement, shared on the Mission’s X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, revealed that Nigeria accounted for over half of all African crude oil shipments to the U.S. during this period.
Data shows that the country exported 33.23 million barrels of crude oil, valued at approximately $2.57 billion, to the U.S. in the first eight months of 2025.

The statement added that the robust trade relations between Nigeria and the United States “generate employment and foster prosperity on both sides of the Atlantic.”

In addition, Chris Bielecki, the U.S. Agricultural Counsellor, noted that agricultural trade between the two countries is projected to reach $700 million in 2025.
