NGX market capitalization soars to N125trn as Investors gain N8.1trn

The Nigerian Exchange Ltd. (NGX) witnessed a bullish week as the All-Share Index and market capitalization surged by 6.95 percent, closing at 194,989.77 points and N125.164 trillion, respectively.
This performance marks a significant climb from the previous week’s close of 182,313.08 points and N117.027 trillion, resulting in a substantial N8.137 trillion gain for investors.
While the majority of indices finished higher, the NGX Growth index bucked the trend with a 15.06 percent depreciation, and the NGX Sovereign Bond index remained flat.
Trading activity saw a massive spike during the week under review, with a total turnover of 7.662 billion shares worth N252.566 billion traded in 345,118 deals.
This volume represents a sharp increase from the 4.652 billion shares valued at N193.326 billion that exchanged hands in 286,751 deals the prior week.
The Financial Services Industry remained the primary driver of market activity, contributing 73.41 percent of the total equity turnover volume with 5.625 billion shares traded. The Services and Oil and Gas industries followed in second and third place, respectively.
Specific equities played a pivotal role in the week's high turnover, led by FCMB Group Plc, Access Holdings Plc, and Zenith Bank Plc. Together, these three companies accounted for 46.90 percent of the total equity turnover volume, moving 3.594 billion shares worth N69.147 billion.
In terms of price movements, 71 equities appreciated while 41 depreciated. Zichis Agro Allied and Japaul Gold Ventures emerged among the top five gainers, while RT Briscoe and Mecure Industries were noted among the top five losers for the week.
The week also featured significant activity in the debt market.
The NGX notified Trading License Holders that Dangote Cement Plc successfully listed its Series 1 and Series 2 Commercial Papers, valued at N19.9 billion and N99.9 billion respectively, on February 18.
These listings fall under the company’s broader N500 billion Commercial Paper Issuance Programme, further deepening the exchange’s corporate bond segment.
This surge in the capital market aligns with the optimistic sentiment expressed by the Lagos State Chapter of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), which characterized recent electoral outcomes as a referendum on President Bola Tinubu's economic policies.
The party argues that these transformative policies and bold leadership are being recognized by investors and the electorate alike.
While the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE) noted a significant rebound in capital importation to $6.01 billion in late 2025, they cautioned that the recovery remains largely portfolio-driven and sensitive to short-term market shifts.
