NFWP-SU empowers Kwara women to improve livelihood.

The Nigerian for Women Program-Scale Up project, an economic empowerment initiative of the Federal Government in collaboration with the Kwara State Government, has began entry into communities in Ifelodun local government area.

This initiative is for women aged 18 years and above with means of livelihood to join Women Affinity Groups (WAGs) in their communities.

This was made known by the State Project Coordinator (SPC), Hajia Medinat Idris, during the community entry activities in Idofian, Ganmo, Amoyo, Jimba-Oja, Koko Araromi, Sulu, Gbagede, Omupo and Igbaja.

Idris explained that the objective of the project is to institutionalize Women Affinity Groups (WAGs) and other platforms for women economic empowerment which would provide additional income to households and enhance harmony among family members.

She noted that the project would provide economic opportunities for unbanked women which would increase the quality of life of family members, promote rapid development of the communities and the state.

Also, the Head of Operations (HOP), Hajia Ramat Sadiq, solicited the help of communities visited to recruit ward facilitators who would monitor the activities of the WAGs, encouraging women of ages 18years and above who own micro or nano businesses to join the WAGs.

The HOP further enumerated the benefits of the project which includes business support from the government, capacity building and skills training for WAG members, increased income for households amongst others.
