By Esther Adebayo
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) held a public hearing today at its Abuja headquarters to discuss Aba Power Limited Electricity’s (APLE) application for an upward review of its electricity tariff.
The hearing drew stakeholders, business owners, and residents from Aba, providing an avenue for consumers to share their opinions on the proposed tariff adjustments.
APLE’s Managing Director, Barr. Ugochukwu Opiegbo, explained that the tariff increase is necessary to sustain and enhance power infrastructure and service delivery in Aba.
However, intervenors raised concerns about the need for improved customer service and better quality of service delivery.
In response, APLE assured stakeholders that they are committed to addressing these concerns and highlighted ongoing projects aimed at upgrading the electricity distribution network in Aba.
NERC Vice Chairman, Musiliu Oseni, emphasised the Commission’s commitment to balancing the interests of consumers and service providers, stating,
“This hearing is part of our effort to ensure that any tariff review is fair and reflects the realities on the ground.
“We will carefully review the submissions made here today before making a final decision.”
