NEMA DG inspects trigger room for emergency response

The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs Zubaida Umar, has undertaken inspection visits to the Agency’s Contact Centre and the Trigger Room being established at the NEMA Headquarters in Abuja.

The visits were aimed at assessing the operational readiness of the Contact Centre as well as the progress of work on the Trigger Room, with a view to ensuring that the facilities, systems and personnel are effectively positioned to support the real-time receipt, processing and escalation of emergency information for prompt action.

During the inspection, the Director General reviewed the operational processes at the Contact Centre, which serves as an important interface for receiving and processing emergency alerts and information from members of the public and other sources.

She also inspected the ongoing establishment of the Trigger Room, which is being designed to strengthen inter-agency coordination and facilitate the timely deployment of relevant stakeholders and response resources during disasters and other emergencies.

Mrs Zubaida Umar emphasized the importance of seamless information flow between the Contact Centre, Trigger Room, Emergency Operations Centre and relevant operational units of the Agency, noting that effective emergency management depends significantly on how quickly credible information is received, analysed and translated into coordinated action.

The inspection further underscores the Director General’s commitment to strengthening NEMA’s operational systems through technology, improved information management and closer inter-agency coordination to reduce response time and ensure that emergency alerts are promptly matched with appropriate actions.
