NDPC CEO tasks Staff on soft skills, human capital development

The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr. Vincent Olatunji has charged staff members of the commission to prioritize human capital development and master essential soft skills to drive regulatory impact.

The NDPC CEO gave the charge when he delivered the opening remarks at a soft skills training organized by the NDPC for its staff, themed “Soft Skills Training Programme for NDPC Employees: Enhancing Productivity, Professionalism, and Regulatory Impact.”

Speaking at the event, Dr. Olatunji reiterated the importance of human capital development to the success of any organization, noting that the Commission has made it a core strategic pillar in achieving its mandate under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDP Act).

He stressed that beyond technical and professional qualifications, soft skills are essential for anyone especially public servants to excel in their careers, as these traits shape how people perceive them.

Highlighting the key skills covered in the training including communication, emotional intelligence, problem-solving, adaptability, resilience, teamwork, time management, and leadership, Dr. Olatunji shared personal experiences to demonstrate how mastering these attributes can foster better public service delivery.

He challenged the staff to capitalize on the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the civil service.

The training featured several expert facilitators, including the President of the Data Knowledge Information Privacy Protection Initiative (DKIPPI), Mr. Tokunbo Smith; the Director of Aviation Security Regulation at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Dr. Bernard Omogo; and a retired Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Mr. Oluwole Edun.
