NASENI empowers 100 youths on modern electrical installation, maintenance

In effort to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country with the directive and support of Former President Muhammadu Buhari the National Agency For Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has empowered One (100) hundred youths across Kwara State.

The empowerment is targeted at promoting employment and self reliance among the youths in the State and also to upscale the skills of youths nationwide.

The training was focused on different vocations such as Electrical installations and maintenance, Modern Auto-mechanics and Diagnostic Solar installations and maintenance, Modern tailoring and installations of Plaster of Paris well known as POP.

Speaking bat the event, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Dr Bashir Gwandu lauded Former President Buhari’s Administration for this opportunity to empower youths through NASENI Skills Development Programme.

He said “Our aim is to ensure that our teeming youths develop modern skills in electrical installations and maintenance required for the creation of jobs and self employment generation “

The Chairman appreciated the Former Chief of Staff to the President Buhari, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari for his support towards the success of the Programme.

The Chairman who was represented by the Coordinating Director Planning & Business Development, Mrs. Nonyem Onyechi explained that the support of Prof. Gambari has helped NASENI in bringing innovation and infusion of science and engineering in different sectors of Nigerian economy.

The Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development Barr. Olabode George Towoju said “the empowerment of youths in the State was a priority programme of the government before now as grants of various types have been issued to youths who had entrepreneurial prospects and therefore what NASENI had brought to the State as directed by Mr President was quite timely and commendable.

On his part, The Chairman Board of Trustees of D-Positive Global Impact Foundation, Mr Nasir Abdulquadri gave accolades to the immediate past President for the mandate given to NASENI under the chairmanship of Chief Of staff to train 100 Nigerians in all 36 states.

Abdulquadri applauded the former Chief of Staff for his interest in eradication of poverty among the grassroot in Nigeria and facilitation of this programme to Kwara state .

He thanked the executive Governor for his numerous programmes that complement the federal government efforts to empower the youths, women , SME owners and vulnerables.

He admonished the beneficiaries to use the acquired knowledge and empowerment tools from the programme, judicioulsy.

The Former Vice Chancellor Federal University of Technology(FUT), Minna, Prof Suleiman Adeyemi who is also the Chairman of Siwat Engineering was represented by Prof Bolaji Abdulfatai, he appreciated President Buhari for supporting NASENI Skills Acquisition Programme for the youths.

He further said, the training will give the beneficiaries the right knowledge in the ever-changing technological world of electronics, electrical, power, tools and appliances. He also said, not just those who participated in the training will benefit from it but everyone in the vocation within the state.

The former Chief of Staff to the President, represented by Engr. Suleiman Yahaya Alapansanpa, Chairman Governing Board of Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), he doubled as Danmasanin of Ilorin and Chairman, Durban Committee representing The Emir of Ilorin, Dr(Alh) Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, declared the training closed.

He said “ The policy of the Federal Government is to increase the capacity and competence of the youths and the country’s workforce to be able to compete with their contemporaries within and outside the country”. He urged the beneficiaries to make use of the modern tools effectively and become successful employer of labour in electrical installations and maintenance and beyond.

Some of the modern tools and equipment awarded to the beneficiaries during the closing ceremony includes; Work-Master, Electrical Tools-box, Cordless Drilling Machines, Multi-Meter Tester and other electrical tool kits amongst others.

The aim of the training was to give the beneficiaries more knowledge on the new and emerging technologies in the electrical installations, repairs and maintenance, as well as current advancements in those fields. With this training NASENI has given them the edge over others in the region in terms of skills and practical exposure to new technology.

The Skill Development programme is second of its kind in the North Central Geo-political Zone as the training ended with a closing ceremony on 27 May 2023. The beneficiaries were awarded tools and certificates of participation for the training lasted for five days.
