Nasarawa Assembly tasks works ministry, contractors on quality delivery, speedy rural road projects

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has urged the management of the Ministry of Works and Housing to ensure the provision of quality roads in the state.

The Chairman, House Committee on Works and Housing, Mr. Suleiman Azara, made the call on Wednesday while assessing the budget performance of the ministry and other agencies for the second quarter of 2025 in Lafia.

The lawmaker, who is also the House Majority Leader, expressed worry over the slow pace of work on some ongoing rural road construction projects in the state.

He urged the ministry to ensure that contractors handling various projects were mobilised and return to their respective sites.

The majority leader charged the ministry to work closely with the contractors and ensure strict supervision in compliance with contract specifications.

”You are to ensure that standard work is done according to specifications,” he charged.

Also, the committee hosted the management of Nasarawa State Electricity Board (NASEB), where the committee chairman appreciated them for providing electricity to the people of the state.

The chairman assured them of the committee’s support to enable them succeed.

Furthermore, the management of the Nasarawa State Fire Service Agency and the Nasarawa State Motor Vehicle Administration and Traffic Management Agency appeared before the committee, where the committee chairman commended them for their good performance in the second quarter.

Azara urged them to put in more effort for quality service delivery.

He said the committee would synergise with the managements to overcome challenges of manpower, operational vehicles, fund approvals, and releases that affect the smooth operation of their organisations.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Housing, Mr. Ahmad Abdullahi; Managing Director, Nasarawa State Electricity Board, Mr Yakubu Suleiman; and General Manager, Nasarawa State Motor Vehicle Administration and Traffic Management Agency, Mr. Victor Jerry, appreciated the committee and the assembly for their support.

They solicited more support to enable them to succeed.

They, however, enumerated their challenges to include shortages of manpower, operational vehicles, insufficient funds, and delays in approval and fund releases, and sought the assembly’s support to address their challenges.
