NAPTIP launches investigation into viral assault of Benue schoolgirl

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has commenced an investigation into a viral video showing a group of female students assaulting and stripping a classmate in Benue State.
The agency announced its intervention on Monday following widespread public outrage over the incident circulating on social media.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, NAPTIP said it had directed its Benue State Command to take immediate action.
The agency described the incident as disturbing and said its officers have been mandated to collaborate with relevant state authorities to ensure appropriate legal action against those involved.
The development follows the circulation of a video showing at least five students, dressed in school uniforms, physically assaulting and humiliating another student.
The victim was seen attempting to shield herself as the attackers mocked and filmed her.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns over school safety and gender-based violence across the country.
