In a major political defection ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Vice President Namadi Sambo has officially dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sambo, who served as Vice President under Dr Goodluck Jonathan from 2010 to 2015, confirmed his switch to the APC on Wednesday after quietly aligning with the party’s Kaduna State chapter last Friday.

An influential APC figure, Imran Muhammad, disclosed the defection via a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.

“Former Vice President Namadi Sambo has officially joined APC,” Muhammad posted.

Although no official statement has been issued by Sambo himself as of press time.

It was gathered that meetings have been held behind closed doors between the former VP and key Northern APC stakeholders in recent weeks.

The PDP has yet to issue a formal response to the development.
