NAFDAC raises alarm over dangerous sex enhancement capsule
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a serious warning to Nigerians over the recall of a popular sexual enhancement capsule known as WAP Sensual Enhancement capsules.
The drug, which is being marketed online as a safe dietary supplement, was found to contain hidden and dangerous pharmaceutical chemicals that can cause severe health damage or sudden death.
According to Public Alert No. 31/2026 released by NAFDAC on Monday, the manufacturer, Best Supplements Best Prices Company, is already voluntarily recalling all lots of the product from the market.
This followed a laboratory analysis by the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) which exposed the hidden ingredients.
Mojisola Adeyeye, a Professor and Director-General of NAFDAC, explained that the US FDA lab test revealed that the product contains sildenafil, tadalafil, and flibanserin.
None of these heavy orthodox chemicals were listed on the product label, making it highly dangerous for unsuspecting buyers who think it is a natural herbal product.
The agency warned that sildenafil and tadalafil are strictly prescription drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction, popularly known as weak erection.
When men with health challenges like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart diseases unknowingly take these chemicals, it can react terribly with their routine nitrate medications, such as nitroglycerin, and crash their blood pressure to a fatal level.
Similarly, the third hidden chemical, flibanserin, is a prescription drug meant for treating low sexual desire in women.
NAFDAC warned that flibanserin is highly dangerous because it can cause severe drowsiness, sedation, dangerously low blood pressure, and sudden fainting, especially if the user consumes alcohol.
On the risk of the product, NAFDAC stated that the presence of undeclared medicinal ingredients in products marketed as dietary supplements or herbal products poses a significant health risk to consumers, particularly individuals with underlying medical conditions or those taking prescription medications.
The agency gave the product details as WAP Sensual Enhancement capsules, manufactured by Best Supplement Best Prices Company, adding that all lots of the sexual enhancement supplement are affected.
The country of origin remains unknown, but the product is heavily marketed and distributed online in the United States through eBay.
The agency has implored members of the public, including distributors, mega-dealers, and retailers who have the product in stock to stop selling or using it immediately.
They are advised to hand over the remaining stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Adeyeye assured Nigerians that NAFDAC remains fully committed to safeguarding public health and will continue its surveillance market raids to flush out fake and substandard medicines circulating in the country.
