A muslim group, the Qur’anic Believers Harmony for Peace Initiative has organised a special prayer session for peace, security and violence-free 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
The prayer event was held on Saturday in Katsina, under the theme “National Unity Gathering: Prayers for Peace, Security and Violence-Free Elections in Nigeria”.
The newsmen report that the prayer session brought together religious leaders from different Islamic sects and Christian denominations, as well as other stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, the National Leader of the group, Sheikh Usman Dangungu, said peaceful coexistence was essential for the development of society and the practice of religion.
According to him, all religions recognise the importance of peace, stressing that without it, people would not have the opportunity to worship God and fulfil their religious obligations.
Dangungu urged members of the Qur’aniyyun group to remember their late leader, Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka, who was recently assassinated by unknown gunmen in Katsina in their prayers.
He also appealed to them to intensify prayers for the deceased and seek divine intervention in bringing the perpetrators to justice, warning against taking the law into their own hands.
He further prayed for peaceful conduct of the 2027 general elections and urged the electorate to vote for credible candidates who prioritise the welfare of the masses.
Similarly, Sheikh Ibrahim Isah-Makwarari, representing the Qadiriyya group, prayed for the repose of Masussuka’s soul and urged youths to always serve as ambassadors of peace.
He called on relevant authorities to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible for Masussuka’s killing and ensure they were brought to justice in accordance with the law.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Katsina State chapter, Rev. Father Richard Shuaibu-Liti, recalled his interactions with the deceased and offered prayers for the repose of his soul.
Shuaibu-Liti also prayed for Nigeria to overcome its security challenges, particularly in troubled parts of the country, while calling for an end to corruption.
In his remarks, Sheikh Nur Khalid, representing Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), commended the deceased for his contributions to peacebuilding.
He prayed for Allah’s intervention in Nigeria’s socio-economic and political affairs, particularly the forthcoming general elections.
The Islamic preacher also sought divine guidance towards a peaceful electoral process in the country.
