Midwestern Oil & Gas appoints first female Chief Executive Officer

…Strengthens corporate governance, leadership team

Midwestern Oil & Gas Company Limited has appointed Engr. (Mrs.) Elozino Olaniyan as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, with effect from December 1, 2025.

The company announced that her appointment marks a major milestone, as she becomes the first woman to lead the indigenous oil and gas exploration and production firm since its establishment in 1999.

The company described the appointment as a strategic step toward strengthening leadership, deepening governance reforms, and positioning Midwestern for long-term sustainable growth in Nigeria’s evolving energy landscape.

Engr. Olaniyan, a veteran engineer and energy executive, brings over three decades of experience spanning upstream operations, corporate strategy, and environmental management. Before joining Midwestern, she was the General Manager, Safety & Environment, at Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, where she oversaw key reforms that improved operational efficiency and environmental compliance.

Midwestern noted that the leadership transition is part of broader reforms aimed at enhancing oversight and operational excellence. These reforms include the reconstitution of its Board of Directors to increase the presence of Independent Non-Executive Directors; a strengthened executive leadership team to drive innovation and performance; and expanded investments in local content through partnerships, talent development, and initiatives aligned with national energy priorities.

Reacting to her appointment, Engr. Olaniyan expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in her.

“I am honoured to lead Midwestern at this pivotal stage. Our focus will be on operational discipline, transparency, and sustainable growth that benefits all stakeholders,” she said.

“Together with our strengthened leadership team, we are poised to deliver long-term value and play an even stronger role in Nigeria’s energy future.”

Chairman of the Board, Engr. Emeka Okwuosa, stated that her emergence reflects the company’s commitment to modernising its leadership.

“Elozino’s leadership marks a defining moment in Midwestern’s evolution. She represents the new face of Nigerian energy leadership—technically grounded, strategically minded, and deeply committed to sustainability and people,” he said.

“The Board has full confidence in her ability to lead the company through its next phase of growth.”

Midwestern Oil & Gas, established in 1999, is a leading indigenous operator with interests in the Umusadege Field, midstream gas processing assets, and energy partnership ventures across the Niger Delta.

The company says it remains focused on sustainable resource development, local capacity building, and strong environmental stewardship.
