Metering rate hits 59.69%, as DisCos gain over 227,000 customers in two months

Nigeria’s national metering rate increased to 59.69% at the end of April 2026, up from 59.13% in March, according to the latest Metering Status Factsheet released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The regulatory figures reveal steady progress across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, with Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) deploying 111,654 meters in April following 115,905 installations in March.

Total metered customers reached 7,435,733 out of a total active customer base of 12,457,068 by the end of April.

Eko, Ikeja, and Abuja DisCos continued to lead the industry with the highest coverage nationwide. Eko DisCo maintained the highest rate at 88.78% with 599,213 metered customers out of 674,929 active accounts.

Ikeja DisCo followed closely with an 87.93% coverage rate, accounting for 1,182,200 metered customers out of 1,344,517.

Abuja DisCo held third place after surpassing the 80% mark, reaching 80.08% coverage with 1,107,850 metered customers out of 1,383,420.

Meanwhile, Ibadan DisCo recorded the highest volume of new installations during April by adding 31,951 metered accounts to raise its coverage to 53.75%.

Other DisCos maintaining coverage above the 50% threshold included Port Harcourt at 67.73%, Benin at 59.14%, and Enugu at 51.38%.

Despite overall growth across the national grid, significant metering gaps persist in northern franchise areas where coverage remains under 40%.

Kaduna DisCo recorded a 37.51% metering rate with 206,164 metered accounts out of 549,665 active customers, while Kano DisCo closed April at 35.40% coverage with 282,928 metered customers out of 799,251.

Jos DisCo stood at 34.67% coverage with 285,855 metered customers out of 824,392, and Yola DisCo posted the lowest regional rate at 34.45% with 176,806 metered accounts out of 513,274 active customers.

According to the statistics, active customers are defined as users who vended or were billed at least once within a 12-month period.
