Men, teenager arraigned for alleged street fighting, illegal display of weapons

The Police on Wednesday arraigned three men and a teenager in Lagos State for alleged street fighting and  display of dangerous weapons in public.

The defendants are Idris Fatai, 20; Emmanuel Bangbola, 26; Hamzat Sanni, 26; and Junior Monday, 19.

The police charged them with conspiracy, illegal  possession of weapons, display of arms in public and breach of peace.

The prosecutor, ASP Victor Eruada, told the court that the defendants and others at large committed the offences on April 4, on Memudu Street, Orile-Iganmu, Lagos State.

He alleged that the defendants unlawfully armed themselves with two daggers, two cutlasses, two knives and other dangerous weapons.

He added that they caused terror in the area.

“The defendants were displaying the weapons  in the public, terrorising and causing commotion in the area,” Eruada said.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by taking part in street fighting and causing pandemonium.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 411, 312(c), 51 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs T. A. Oladele, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned the case until July 19 for mention.
