The Iyaloja General, Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Mrs Busola Isikalu, has warned traders in Ikorodu against poor sanitation.
Isikalu gave the warning in an interview with the News Men on Tuesday in Ikorodu in reaction to the recent closure of markets due to environmental infractions.
NAN reports that Lagos State Ministry of Environment recently shut down 13 markets over sanitation violation.
The market leader however debunked the closure of any market in Ikorodu by the ministry of environment while urging traders to go about their day to day business.
“I have instructed all executives of markets across the division to ensure that traders engage in weekly sanitation for cleaner and safer market environment.
“I have also warned that anybody caught not partaking in the weekly sanitation exercise, be arrested and penalised,” she said.
According to her the idea is aimed at curtailing environmental hazards and health implications of indiscriminate dumping of waste and to avoid filthy market environment.
She added that no market in Ikorodu was part of markets shut down by the ministry of environment, and urged traders to go about their business.
