Man remanded in Badagry for alleged rape of 16-year-old girl

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Badagry, Lagos State, has ordered the remand of a 39-year-old man, Victor Kiere, over allegations of raping a 16-year-old girl.

Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni gave the order on Wednesday after the defendant entered a plea of not guilty. He directed that Kiere be remanded at the Awarjigoh Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Layeni also instructed that the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the DPP, and adjourned the matter until 21 August 2025 for a ruling on bail and further directives.

According to the police prosecutor, Edet Ekpo, the alleged offence occurred in April at about 6:00 p.m. in the Asheri Community Phase 2, Owode-Apa area of Badagry.

Ekpo told the court that the defendant is accused of engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with the teenager without her consent.

The prosecutor said the offence contravenes Sections 137 and 261 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015, which prohibit unlawful sexual relations with minors and sexual assault.
