A young man, identified as Ismail Arogundade, was killed in the early hours of Jan. 5, 2022, along the Ilaro Express Road while returning from a crossover night service.
According to reports, the victim and a companion noticed a vehicle trailing them before the attackers forced them to stop.
In the ensuing panic, one of the men fled into a nearby bush and escaped.
The assailants, suspected to be members of the Aiye confraternity, reportedly targeted two individuals. While the intended target managed to escape, Arogundade, said to be his cousin, was apprehended and assaulted.
Witnesses claimed that the victim was killed during the attack, with some alleging the use of a charm.
Sources indicated that the incident may be linked to a prior disagreement between the suspects and the victims.
The killing has left residents in shock, as it occurred in the early hours of the New Year.
Local authorities are yet to issue an official statement, while investigations into the suspected cult-related attack are ongoing.
