A man, identified as Amaechi Emmanuel Okpe has passed on about three weeks after he was beaten to stupor by a mob at the Coal City capital in Enugu State.
Our correspondent reports that Amaechi succumbed to injuries inflicted on him by the youths of Nike, in the outskirts of Enugu.
The incident leading to his death occurred at the Nike Area on the 20th of July, 2021 when he was caught pants down with another man, an act seen as a taboo not just within the community but is against the Nigerian law.
A competent source disclosed that the youths have been monitoring Amaechi and his lover, one Chukwudi Kelvin Eze, who was living within the neighborhood with his father, Onoyima Eze.
However, trouble started on the 20th of July when neighbours overheard unusual noise from Chukwudi’s room.
“It happened at about noon; and before then, there had been suspicion about his movement with one other guy who he always identified as his friend.
“However, we always believed that there was more between them; so we continued to monitor them until that day, when a neighbour heard some funny sounds from his room.
“Aparently he felt that everyone had gone out for the day’s business, but unknown to him, the neighbour was around.
“So, he quietly alerted the neighbourhood watch group, who came and saw the immoral act through the window.
“In a matter of minutes, people started gathering in the compound. Chukwudi was able to escape miraculously, but his friend was beaten to stupor before the police rescued him,” the community source hinted.
A reliable police source, however, confirmed that Amaechi died precisely on August 9, 2021.
“He succumbed to the injuries inflicted on him by the mob who considered his act a taboo,” the police source said, adding that “presently, there is a manhunt for Chukwudi Eze who is still on the run.”
When contacted officially, the spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe said Chukwudi had been declared wanted for engaging in homosexual acts.
He urged the public to provide useful information that could lead to his arrest and prosecution.
