A 59-year-old man, Adekunle Isiaka, on Monday appeared before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, for allegedly stealing a car worth N5 million.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to a one-count charge of fraud preferred against him.

The prosecutor, Insp Opeyemi Lawal, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 1 at about 8:00 a.m at Onigbedu Area in Abeokuta.

Lawal alleged that Isiaka fraudulently took possession of a Mazda 626 car belonging to the complainant, Mrs Adedeji Omolara.

He said that the car was to be purchased on an instalment basis for N5 million, with the defendant expected to pay N50, 000 weekly.

The prosecutor alleged that Isiaka absconded with the car without making any payment, and all efforts to recover the car proved abortive.

He added that the matter was reported to the police, leading to his arrest.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 383 (1) of the Criminal Code Laws Vol.1 of Ogun, 2026.

The Magistrate, Miss O.T  Odubanjo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety in like sum.

Odubanjo said that the surety must be a registered bondsman with the Ogun State Judiciary.

She ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his bail conditions.

The case was adjourned until Nov.18, for hearing.
