Man, 38, docked for alleged N600,000 fraud

A 38-year-old man, Fedelix Ogboi, on Tuesday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for alleged N600,000 fraud.

Ogboi, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of breach of peace, fraud, and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, SP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in March at No.22 Ifelodun St. Kudeibu, in Ijegun area of Lagos.

Aigbokhan alleged that the defendant collected the N600,000 from the complainant, Mr Olaniyi Adebayo, for a room in his apartment, but failed to accommodate him.

He said that the defendant converted the money to his personal use.

Aigbokhan also said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to breach the peace when he refused the complainant to stay in his house and failed to refund his money.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 168(d), 287, and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Newsmen report that Section 168(d) stipulates two years jail team for breach of peace, Section 287 prescribes three years for stealing, while Section 314 provides fifteen years for fraud.

Magistrate A.K Dosunmu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Oct. 12 for mention.
