Makinde calls for stronger church-government partnership at Methodist conference

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed the importance of collaboration between the government and faith-based organizations, describing such partnerships as vital to building a united and prosperous nation.

The governor made the remarks on Wednesday while officially declaring open the 50th/15th Biennial Conference of the Methodist Church Nigeria in Ibadan.

Makinde praised the Methodist Church for its longstanding contributions to national development, noting that the church has played a significant role in advancing education, healthcare, and community development across the country.

He also acknowledged its efforts in promoting moral values, strengthening families, and inspiring hope among Nigerians.

“The Methodist Church has contributed to nation-building not only by investing in education, healthcare, and community development but also by shaping values, strengthening families, and inspiring hope,” Makinde said.

The governor further stressed that national development cannot be driven by government alone, adding that faith-based organizations remain key partners in fostering peace, unity, and social progress.

He noted that while policies and infrastructure are important, lasting development also depends on strong values and a collective commitment to the common good.

“Partnerships between the Methodist Church and other faith-based organizations and government remain important because building a nation requires not just policies and projects, but integrity, compassion, and a shared sense of purpose,” he added.

Makinde reiterated his administration’s commitment to working closely with religious institutions and other stakeholders to promote sustainable development and improve the well-being of residents.
