‎The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has announced a two-week extension for the filing of individual annual income tax returns, moving the deadline from April 1 to April 14, 2026.

‎This was made known in a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications at LIRS, Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude.

‎The Executive Chairman of LIRS, Ayodele Subair, stated that the statutory deadline for filing annual tax returns remains March 31 each year, but the extension was granted to allow taxpayers additional time to complete and submit accurate returns.

‎The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has intensified efforts to improve tax compliance and boost internally generated revenue in Lagos over the years however the introduction of the eTax platform forms have been met with low compliance levels among individual taxpayers.

‎He urged individuals to prioritise timely tax compliance, describing it as a necessary civic responsibility that should be embedded in routine personal practice.

‎He also reiterated that electronic filing via the LIRS eTax platform remains the only approved method for submitting tax returns, noting that manual filing has been completely phased out. Taxpayers are therefore required to process their returns exclusively through the online portal.

‎He added that the platform is secure, user-friendly and accessible round the clock, advising taxpayers to ensure that their Tax Identification Number (Tax ID) is correctly entered during submission to avoid processing issues.

‎The agency encouraged taxpayers seeking further clarification or assistance to visit any of its offices or reach out through its official communication channels.
