LG Crisis: Osun govt commends judiciary for upholding sack of APC council chairmen

The Osun State Government has commended the judiciary for upholding the judgment of the Federal High Court, which sacked the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmen and Councillors.

Speaking to newsmen in office on Friday, Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, said the Ondo State capital, which, in its judgement, reaffirmed that the local government election conducted by Osun State Independent Electoral Commission( OSSIEC) in 2022 under the administration of Mr Gboyega Oyetola was unconstitutional, null and void.

According to him, “In the judgement delivered today, the Court of Appeal states that the dismissal of Appeal No FHC/ OS/CS/94/2022 on Jan.13, 2025 shows that the judgement of the Federal High Court in suit No FHC/OS/CS//94/2022 which sacked the Osun APC Yes/No Chairmen and Councillors still subsists and binding on all those Chairmen and Councillors.

“For the sake of emphasis and clarity in order to put the records straight, we hereby reproduce the order of the Federal High Court which was affirmed today,13th day of June,2025 as herein stated below

“The election into the Local Government Councils across Osun State held on the 15th 10- 2022 pursuant to notice of election issued on the 15th 8-2022 is hereby declared unconstitutional, invalid, null and void for violation of the constitution and breach of sections 28,29,32,98 and 150 of the electoral act,2022.

“All persons or individuals occupying offices in the state Local Government Councils by virtue of the said election are accordingly sacked from holding such offices.”

“The APC led by former Governor Gboyega Oyetola inflicted on the people of Osun state(the most peaceful state in Nigeria) the unwarranted ,
unprovoked and unnecessary political crisis leading to loss of many lives and properties in the state.

“We therefore, call on Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola and Osun APC to apologize to the good people of Osun state for the unwarranted and unnecessary chaos which they inflicted on the people of Osun state for the period it lasted,” he added.
