The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary traffic diversion following the planned closure of the iddo bridge to help ease the installation of heavy steel bridge beams as part of the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction works on the bridge.

According to the state government, the closure, being carried out by the government, will affect vehicular movement on the bridge during two scheduled periods: Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am, and Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The government stated that the entire section of Iddo Bridge in Ijora, within Apapa Local Government Area, will be closed during the operation to ensure the safe installation of the steel beams saying to ease traffic congestion and ease movement around the affected corridor, motorists have been advised to use designated alternative routes.

Motorists travelling from Oyingbo and Yaba towards Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain are advised to ply Funsho Williams Avenue to continue their journeys.

Those travelling from Marina to Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain are to descend the ramp to access Iddo-Onigbe, connect through Oyingbo and proceed via Murtala Muhammed Way.

Similarly, motorists travelling from Ijora Olopa and Apapa towards Carter Bridge and Marina are advised to use Eko Bridge by connecting through Apapa Road and continuing via Murtala Muhammed Way through Iddo-Onigbe to Carter Bridge.

The State Government appealed to road users to remain calm and cooperate with traffic management personnel deployed to the area during the temporary closure.

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the traffic diversion forms part of broader traffic management strategies designed to support the seamless execution of the bridge rehabilitation project noting that the closure is necessary to facilitate the launching of steel beams for the reconstruction works being supervised by the Office of the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos.

Residents and commuters are urged to plan their movement ahead and allow extra travel time during the affected periods.
