In a wake to develop the promises to redefine Lagos rail network landscape, the state government has announced the impending arrival of six brand-new train sets, specifically designed to bolster the capacity of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue and Red Lines.
The new trains are expected to substantially augment the capacity of the Blue and Red Lines, improving operational efficiency and enhancing commuter experience.
According to Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Sanwo-Olu, Jubril Gawat, the new trains have successfully passed the factory acceptance test and are scheduled for shipment from China.
Gawat revealed that the additional train sets would not only increase the frequency of trips along the Blue Line but also play a pivotal role in passenger operations once phase two of the Blue Line is completed.
“The six trains will play a pivotal role in easing commuter pressure and improving the overall experience for Lagos residents,” Gawat quoted.
He further explained that the phase two extension, which will cover a 14-kilometre stretch from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2027.
