The Lagos State Government has officially launched an exchange programme for Civil Servants in the State’s employment with private sector organisations.

Speaking at the launch event held at the Public Service Office, the Honourable Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, described the exchange programme as a strategic and progressive step toward building a dynamic, efficient, and results-driven civil service.

“This initiative is not just a necessity; it is a vision to transform the public sector into one that matches the efficiency, productivity, and innovation of the private sector,” Ayantayo stated.

Ayantayo pointed out that one of the major challenges in governance is ensuring that the public sector remains competitive, efficient, and innovative.

He explained that the exchange programme would equip Civil Servants with the skills, exposure, and mindset necessary to drive institutional reforms and lead change within the government.

“Through this initiative, we are dispelling outdated stereotypes about the public service. Our Civil Servants will not only adapt to competitive environments but will also return with valuable experiences that will enhance governance and service delivery,” he added.

The programme, which was conceptualised by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2021, aims to provide civil servants with hands-on industry experience.

The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Olubusola Abidakun, explained that the initiative had undergone careful planning before its official implementation, noting that it is designed to equip civil servants with the skills needed to meet the demands of the 21st-century workplace.

Speaking about the potential impact of the programme, the CEO of Kinder Consulting Limited, Patricia Akinlotan, emphasized that the exchange would expose participants to best practices in the private sector, broaden their professional networks, and ultimately foster more efficient and innovative public service.

The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, delivered the keynote address, stressing the importance of dedication and passion in public service.

“Civil service requires commitment. Those who do not love the job cannot remain in it. I am optimistic that this group of beneficiaries represents the future leaders of our service. They must be intentional about leaving the service stronger than they met it,” Agoro stated.

He also urged participants to uphold discipline, respect for seniority, and to represent Lagos State with excellence.

In a speech on behalf of the beneficiaries, Adeola Ekine expressed gratitude to the state government for the initiative, pledging that the participants would be dedicated to transforming the narrative of the civil service.

“We are grateful for this opportunity and promise to change the narrative about civil servants. We will not disappoint,” she assured.
