The Lagos State Government has announced that the second phase of rehabilitation works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge, inward Island, will begin on Wednesday, September 3.
Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, assuring motorists that a well-structured traffic management plan had been designed to ease movement and limit congestion throughout the project period.
Osiyemi explained that lessons from the earlier phase of construction informed a comprehensive review of diversion strategies to ensure smoother traffic flow and the timely completion of works.
Traffic along the Expressway and Lagos Toll Gate corridor, heading toward Oshodi or Victoria Island, is expected to remain largely unimpeded. However, within the immediate construction zone on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge, vehicles will be diverted into a single lane of the three-lane carriageway approximately 50 metres before the site and returned to full access 50 metres after passing it.
Motorists heading to Oshodi have been advised to use the Ojota Slip Road to connect Ikorodu Road, inward Anthony (by Taxi Park), before continuing their journey. Those travelling to Victoria Island are recommended to either take the Ojota Slip Road via Ikorodu Road (inward Anthony by Town Planning Way) and proceed through Gbagada to the Third Mainland Bridge, or remain on Ikorodu Road and continue towards Funsho Williams Avenue to link Eko Bridge.
For travellers coming from Ikeja and surrounding areas en route to Oshodi or Victoria Island, Osiyemi suggested using Maryland to access Ikorodu Road and Funsho Williams Avenue before connecting through Eko Bridge to Outer Marina. Alternatively, drivers can take Ikorodu Road via Anthony (by Taxi Park) to head directly to Oshodi.
The Commissioner stated that the revised traffic plan was created to enhance coordination along the corridor and appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic officers, adhere strictly to lane discipline, and make use of designated alternative routes.
