The Lagos State House of Assembly has criticised the unauthorised presence of its suspended Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko, within the Assembly complex following his suspension on 13 January.

The Assembly’s Chief Security Officer, Kabir Kushoro, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Lagos.

Onafeko was suspended by a two-thirds majority of the House over allegations of financial mismanagement.

Following this, the National Industrial Court in Lagos nullified the appointment of Acting Clerk Babatunde Ottun and reinstated Onafeko to his position.

In case NICN/LA/23/2025, the claimant obtained an interim injunction preventing the Assembly from appointing a replacement for Onafeko.

Granting the application, Justice M. N. Esowe ordered both parties to maintain the status quo until the motion on notice for an interlocutory injunction is determined.

Despite the court ruling, Kushoro stated that Onafeko arrived at the Assembly complex on Wednesday with unknown individuals, blocking the staff entrance with his vehicle. He reportedly attempted to force his way into the Clerk’s office.

“This defiant act disregards legislative protocols and security procedures,” Kushoro said.

“The House considers this a direct affront to its authority and will take all necessary steps to uphold discipline and order. Since he has a pending case against the Assembly and the Lagos State Government, he should allow the legal process to unfold rather than cause disruptions,” he added.

Kushoro confirmed that security agencies had been alerted and that measures were being taken to prevent further disturbances.
