Kwara Polytechnic expels 42 students over examination malpractice

The authorities of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, have announced the expulsion of 42 students following investigations into examination malpractices by the institution’s Examination Malpractice Committee.

The affected cohort comprises 31 Higher National Diploma (HND) and 11 National Diploma (ND) students drawn from various institutes across the polytechnic.

According to a statement issued by the Principal Assistant Registrar for Academic Board Matters Division, Mr. Ibrahim Esin, the students were found guilty of breaching their matriculation oaths and violating the regulations outlined in the institution’s Students’ Handbook.

The breakdown across the institution’s divisions shows the highest number of affected individuals originating from the Institute of Finance and Management Studies with 23 cases.

Additional expulsions span the Institute of Technology, the Institute of Information and Communication Technology, the Institute of Health Technology, the Institute of General Studies, and the Centre for Continuing Education. The students were enrolled in a wide range of academic disciplines, including Mechatronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Public Administration, Accountancy, Banking and Finance, and Journalism and Media Studies.

Confirming the development, the polytechnic’s spokesperson, Mrs. Halima Garuba, emphasized that the institution maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward examination malpractice.

She noted that the decisions followed a thorough review by a high-powered investigative panel composed of credible personnel.

The expelled individuals have been formally instructed to surrender all polytechnic property in their possession to their respective Heads of Department, effective immediately terminating their status as members of the institution.
