Kwara Poly secures NBTE approval for artificial Intelligence programme

The Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has secured approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to run a National Diploma (ND) programme in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The development was announced in a statement issued by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Halima Garuba, who quoted the Rector, Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, as confirming that the programme will commence in the upcoming academic session.

The statement noted that the Rector made the announcement during the opening ceremony of the 7th Annual International Conference of the Polytechnic’s Institute of Applied Sciences.

The conference, themed “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development in Sciences and Applied Sciences,” brought together academics, industry professionals, and key stakeholders to examine the growing applications of artificial intelligence.

Describing the theme as both timely and relevant, Dr. Mohammed remarked that artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming virtually every facet of human endeavor.

He expressed confidence that participants would gain valuable insights from the research papers presented and urged them to apply these findings to improve their professional practice.

The Rector also called for scholarly contributions, research collaborations, and innovative ideas to support the smooth launch of the new ND programme.

He emphasized that the polytechnic will welcome input that strengthens the curriculum, noting that the NBTE approval positions the institution among the earliest tertiary centers in Nigeria to offer formal AI education at the National Diploma level.
